About Cake Recipes Wow

What is on this site

This site is for recipes—cakes, cookies, pies, and more—that work in a real kitchen. Every dish is tested for taste, texture, and ease before it’s shared. The focus is on what matters: clear steps, honest timings, and results you can trust.

The site is organised into three main parts: recipes (grouped by type and occasion), techniques (for when you want to learn a skill), and tips (quick fixes for common baking problems). There’s also a search tool to find what you need fast.

How this site is laid out

How to read a page here

Every recipe page starts with the title, estimated time, and difficulty rating—so you know at a glance if it fits your schedule or skill level. Next comes the ingredient list, grouped by type (dry, wet, optional) for easy measuring.

Numbers are always in grams and millilitres for precision, but cups are included for US readers.

The method appears as a numbered list, with bolded steps for critical actions (like folding batter gently or not overmixing). Timings are split into active (you’re doing something) and passive (oven or fridge time).

Photos appear mid-recipe to show key moments, like when a cake is fully baked or frosting is spread.

At the end, you’ll find tips (common mistakes and fixes), serving suggestions, and storage notes. Skip the tips on your first read—they’re for when you’ve tried the recipe once and want to tweak it. The print button in the toolbar exports just the essentials: ingredients, method, and timings.

When it does not work

A roast that went wrong, dry and split

If a recipe fails, start by checking the basics: Did you measure ingredients correctly? Was the oven preheated long enough? Did you follow the bolded steps exactly? Most baking issues come from small oversights, not the recipe itself.

Before you give up

  • Double-check your oven temperature with an oven thermometer—many home ovens run hot or cold.
  • Read the tips section at the bottom of the page for common pitfalls in that specific recipe.
  • Try the recipe again with one variable changed (e.g., swap butter for oil) to isolate the problem.
  • Search the site for the recipe’s name plus ‘troubleshooting’—others may have asked the same question.

Who we are

Corinne Everson
The colophon
Written byCorinne Everson, who tests every recipe in her home kitchen and writes them as she’d want to see them—clear, honest, and free of fluff.
Tested inA 1978 kitchen with a wonky oven, mismatched pans, and a counter that’s seen decades of flour dust.
Written withA stand mixer that’s held together with hope, a kitchen scale that’s been dropped once too often, and a notebook full of scribbled corrections.
Learned fromA grandmother who measured everything by ‘a pinch’ and a ‘handful,’ and a high school chemistry teacher who made baking feel like science.
Still getting wrongPerfecting the art of not burning the edges of a cake while keeping the centre moist—it’s a daily negotiation.

This site exists because baking should be joyful, not frustrating. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned cook, the goal is the same: a dish that turns out right, every time.
